Among the variety of genuine Taiwan commodities, the special snacks remained a favorite of Pingtaners who don’t mind queuing up to get a taste.

Thanks to some favorable tax policies, the price of Taiwan foods at the market is basically the same as in Taiwan, said Li Zidian, a trading company owner, adding that the revenue on June 20 alone reached about 60,000 yuan ($9,606).

Chen Zhenlong is a college graduate from Taiwan who is in plastic products manufacturing. Now, enticed by the preferential tax policies, he brings his products to the market, where he believes he will have more business opportunities.

Chen said the first batch of his products imported from Taiwan have been sold out. And he plans to open online sales in the future.

Not only locals, but travelers in Pingtan are also drawn to the market.

“It was not on our schedule. But many of the tourists want to take a look and buy something after hearing about the opening of the market. So here we are,” said a guide from a local travel agency.

The market is composed of 38 folk dwellings in the Minnan style, which is new and exotic to some foreign customers.

“That is special architecture with red roofs. And doing a photo shoot is a special experience,” said Yu Xiaofang, a visitor from Ningde city.
