Nearly 100 amateur bike riders and local residents participated in a cycling event in the Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone on May 18.

The group cycling was a warm-up for the 2014 Ocean Cup China Pingtan Int’l Cycling Tour, which will kick off on June 8.

The cyclists rode the 10-km race course, which starts at Haiyu Square, turns back at an intersection in Songnan village and finishes at the square.

The event was scheduled to coincide with China National Tourism Day, which is May 19, promoting a green, low-carbon development mode and trying to raise public awareness of protecting the ocean.

After cycling, the riders participated in a campaign for coastal cleanup.
