A delegation from the People’s Bank of China (PBOC), headed by deputy governor Yi Gang, visited the Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone (PCPZ) on April 25 to investigate the state of its economic development.

Li Dejin, director of PCPZ’s administrative committee, said Pingtan’s focus had shifted from infrastructure construction to cultivation of a comprehensive industrial system. And Pingtan hopes POBC will help it with financial reforms and build an efficient financial system.

Taiwan’s enterprises often have trouble with financing in Pingtan. To solve the problem, Li hoped PBOC could pilot cross-border RMB credit operations in Pingtan, relax controls on foreign exchange, allow free convertibility between RMB and Taiwan dollars, and increase financial support for agriculture and small and medium-sized enterprises.
