Customs authorities in the Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone opened a green channel for Taiwan compatriots who come for ancestor worship during Qingming Festival.
Some 750 people from Taiwan aboard Haixia, a high-speed passenger ferry, arrived in Pingtan on April 3. Many of them were returning to the Chinese mainland for ritual activities on Qingming, or Tomb-sweeping Day, or April 5.
To cope with the growing number of visitors, customs staffers directed Taiwan compatriots to a green channel for clearance procedures, which took no more than 5 minutes.
Lin Fajie, who is in his late 70s, was taken through the customs clearance area in a wheelchair. The old man praised the attitude of the inspectors.
In addition to the faster clearance, customs also set up a support site for passengers who needed help.
