Pingtan's first animated series – Legend of Qilin – is expected to hit screens by June 2014.

The series includes 78 episodes – each one lasting 22 minutes - and focuses on the culture on both sides of the Taiwan Straits.

He Linrong, deputy manager of the Pingtan Shuimu Animation Lit Co, said that the series tells the story of how the two main characters, Qi Qi and Lin Lin, protect Pingtan island against villains.

The storyline is completely different from the first edit which was completed half a year ago and which focused on Pingtan's history and culture through conversations between the two characters.

He also said that a panel of experts decided that the characters had be expanded and that the final cut is more market-oriented and will definitely attract young people.
