A team from the Pingtan government extended greetings to local centenarians prior to the Double Ninth Festival on Saturday.

You Mengjun, the county Party secretary, and Xie Xiutong, director of the Party office of the Pingtan administrative committee, learned about the health situation of the elderly citizens and gave away bonuses to them.

There are currently 35 centenarians in Pingtan, statistics from the local civil bureau shows. Eight are male, and 27 are female. Zheng Ruisong from Xilou village in Liushui town and Chen Xiamei from Jidiao village in Beicuo town are the oldest, both 107.

Double Ninth Festival, or Chong Yang Festival, is celebrated on the ninth day of the ninth Chinese lunar month. It falls on October 13 this year.
