The authorities opened a taxation bureau in the Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone on Sept 23.

This new district-level bureau - which has merged with the county-level bureau – is being administered by the Fujian Provincial Local Taxation Bureau.

Zheng Jianxin, director of the new bureau, said "Pingtan has made great strides in economic development during the past few years, and the reshuffling and expansion of the local taxation bureau is in line with the current situation."

Local taxation numbers have continued to climb since Pingtan was selected by the central government as the mainland's first economic pilot zone opening up to Taiwan three years ago. The annual tax revenue reaches 3.87 billion yuan ($632 million) with an average annual growth of 38.8 percent.
