Zheng Xiaosong, vice governor of Fujian province, and officials from the provincial departments of economy and trade, arrived in Pingtan county on September 12 for a visit focusing on the island's economic development.
Zheng and his entourage toured construction projects, including the customs bureau at Nianggong village, the Haixia Ruyi real estate project, Jidiao wharf, a new TPK Holding Ltd branch, Liya shipyard, Xinfu Bay land reclamation project, and the integrated underground pipeline under Tanxi Road.
Gong Qinggai, director of the Pingtan administrative committee, said that following its establishment over three years ago, Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone now boasts the basic conditions for further development and a more livable environment.
He also said that it now also plays a bigger role in cross-Straits communication, adding that Pingtan aims to build a "livable island".
Zheng said he was surprised at Pingtan's advances over the past few years and vowed - on behalf of the provincial government - to continue supporting the county.
