The traffic management department of Pingtan county opened an account on the popular online chatting service, WeChat, on August 19, after a one-month trial operation.

It is the first traffic management department in Fujian province to open a WeChat account, and it will use the service mainly to communicate with members of the public who have questions concerning traffic rules.

The department said that the account attracted more than 1,100 followers during its first week of operation, and it receives about 15 messages or questions every day.

The department publishes a daily wrap-up on the account at 5:30 pm, concerning Pingtan real-time road information, new road rules and weather forecast.

In addition, the account also serves as a platform for public supervision and complaints, and members of the public can take photos of people breaking traffic rules and send them to the account.
