Starting September 1, students in kindergartens, primary schools and middle schools in Pingtan county, East China's Fujian province, will get an exclusive enrollment code that will remain unchanged in their academic career before college, sources from the Pingtan education bureau said on Wednesday, August 28.

The move is in accordance with a national directive that orders kindergartens and schools to make lifelong enrollment codes for students to facilitate the unified management of their academic information on a national scale.

The creation of enrollment codes will be based on student ID card numbers. Numbers will be unique to the student and will stay the same throughout their life, said Lin Shuohui, an official from the local education bureau.

Student enrollment information across China has been made more complete as it newly integrates a student's family background (sole child, orphan, etc) and extra information, including transportation method to school and if he or she needs to submit a school bus request.
