An inspection group consisting of 16 doctoral students from Peking University, one of China's most prestigious universities, visited the Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone on July 28 and 29 to survey its private economy.

The group toured a petty trade market opening to residents of Pingtan and Taiwan, the Aoqian Passenger Terminal, the Sea Island Research Center and the Pingtan County Planning Museum

The development prospects of Pingtan left a deep impression on the group, said the PhD students, adding that they hope to contribute to the construction of Pingtan after graduation.

The group came to Pingtan to explore new models of the private economy and regional economy in Fujian province, sources told the Pingtan Times.
