A big outdoor dance floor was recently set up at Cuiyuan Park in Pingtan, attracting a number of elderly to the plaza.

The 500-square-meter dance floor was funded by seven senior citizens who donated 10,000 yuan ($1,631) each. It took three months to set up and decorate.

The dance floor provides a leisure spot for old people, according to the patrons.

"For us old guys, what is most valuable? Of course it is health and longevity," said Li Konghua, a Pingtan local. "Now as life gets better, we pay more attention to entertainment and work outs."

Previously, the small patch of land at the park, where people might fall while dancing, was in rough condition. This triggered the idea to build a new dance floor, said Liu.

"We should give thanks to the local government and forestry authorities who have been helping us with the project," he added.

Currently there is still a financing gap in the project. The elderly dance club hopes charitable enterprises can chip in to solve the problem.
