A 110-kV transformer substation in Guanshuxia village, Pingyuan township of Pingtan county - the county's first 110-kV smart transformer substation - is set to be put into operation in the near future, and the Pingtan Power Supply Company has been conducting inspections since early July.

Ding Yong, director of the maintenance center of the Pingtan Power Supply Company, said that the company has inadequate experience in the management of smart transformer substations, and has thus called on technicians from the Fuzhou Electric Power Bureau who have given special training courses to improve the skills of their employees and help them adapt to the development of smart power grids.

The transformer substation, with an investment of 45.64 million yuan ($7.44 million), has two major transformers, each with a capacity of mega volt-amperes. It will mainly provide power for the northwestern part of Pingtan, including the townships of Suao, Pingyuan, Luyang and Baiqing.
