The Pingtan Cultural Center is under interior refurbishment to better feed the demand of public cultural leisure, sources from the local sports and cultural bureau said on Tuesday.

The current cultural center, built in 1979, is situated at the No 16 of East Street in Chengguan district.

The Fujian provincial authorities recently ordered to renovate and expand the center to improve its facilities and services.

A new cultural center will rise up at Zhongpu village in Chengguan district. It will occupy an area of 3,000 square meters, consisting of a couple of buildings transformed from hotels and office buildings.

Workers will upgrade supporting facilities such as drainage, electric utility, fire-fighting equipment, and heating and ventilation devices in the new buildings.

After its completion in October, the center will open professional studios of culture, history, literature, arts, music, calligraphy and dancing, and will hold classes, training and lectures in several other multi-function rooms. It is also refurbished in a hope to meet the national secondary standard of its kinds.
