Fujian province will set up four Internet-of-Things model regions in the next three years in a bid to strengthen the inter-department integration of information resources, said sources from the Fujian Provincial Bureau of Information Technology.

The four model regions will be in Nanping city, the Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone, and the districts of Gulou and Mawei in Fuzhou city.

The Internet of Things is a network of Internet-enabled objects, together with web services that interact with these objects. It is based on technologies such as radio frequency identification (RFID), sensors and smart phones. The purpose of the Internet of Things is to connect things to the Internet, allowing items to exchange information with each other.

Nanping will focus on the adoption of Internet-of-Things technology in ecological protection, tourism and agriculture. Pingtan will strive to bring in Taiwan’s advanced Internet-of-Things technology and use it in fields of manufacturing and education as well as home security and high-speed transfer network construction.

Gulou district will be a pilot zone for a large cloud platform for public services including road condition inquiry, car navigation and mobile one-stop shopping.

Mawei district will prioritize informatization construction in sectors such as electronic information and shipbuilding.
