Fuzhou-Pingtan railway gets a green light

The plan of the construction of a railway linking Fuzhou city and Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone, in East China's Fujian province has been approved jointly by the provincial government and the China Railway Corporation, the Xinhuanet.com reported on June 6.

The construction of the 88.4-kilometer double-track railway is expected to take five and a half years, with an investment totaling 24.4 billion yuan ($3.98 billion). Six intermediate stations will be built in between.

The railway will have an annual capacity of 50 million passengers and 15 million tons of freight.
