A senior official in Pingtan, an island county in East China's Fujian province, urged enhanced efforts in a local compain to keep the city clean on Wednesday.

Garbage could still be easily spotted on roadside, said You Mengjun, deputy director of the Pingtan administrative committee during an inspection tour around the island.

The campaign was launched by the local authorities in early June to crack down on environment pollution in the Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone.

In the next stage from June 14 to 19, all government departments and enterprises are required to make joint efforts to keep the environment clean, said You.
