A food court - which is part of the program of Pingtan's annual sand sculpture festival for the first time - is expected to focus on Taiwan cuisine this year, as preliminary preparations are underway and it is set to have a trial operation on June 14.

More than 130 Taiwan entrepreneurs and chefs have applied for booths at the food court, which will last from June to October, and they will be divided into four groups that will attend the event in alternation.

A businesswoman in Pingtan said that her company had contacted food suppliers in Taiwan and they are aiming to bring Taiwan frozen desserts. She said they plan to serve dishes including sticky rice, sweet corn, Hsinchu meat balls and small steamed buns.

Organizers have taken measures to protect the environment at the beach where the food court will be held.
