A new border defense troop under the People's Armed Police was established in the Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone, Southeast China's Fujian, on Wednesday to better carry out missions.

The Pingtan public security border security detachment, whose predecessor was the Pingtan county border security forces, was established due to advances in Pingtan's opening-up development and the demand for more military forces.

The unit vowed to beef up coastal defense and crack down on crimes such as drug smuggling and human trafficking in order to maintain stable communities and boost economic and social development of the zone.
