A fish grilling activity is coming to an end in Pingtan's Shanbian village. The event has attracted Taiwan compatriots living in Pingtan to the village to enjoy Spring Festival, reported Pingtan Times on Feb 18.
The activity is held by Ah Yong and Charley Yang, two Taiwan natives, and Ah Fang, a Pingtan local married to a Taiwan man.
It is common to grill fish in celebration of the Lunar New Year and other traditional festivals in Taiwan. Guests came to the event and brought gifts such as liquor, food and homemade nougats, while children got together to make crafts.
"This fish grilling festival is a reunion of friends rather than a commercial activity," said Qiu Linsheng, a Taiwan businessman who works in Pingtan's communication industry. "Charley's village restaurant has become our ‘headquarters' and we are like family," he added.
"Village tourism in Pingtan is still in its infant stage, but I have confidence in this industry. We hope to encourage more villagers to join us and make fish grilling a new tourist attraction."
