The Fuzhou-Pingtan Railway Project is currently under assessment by the National Development and Reform Commission and is expected to start construction in late 2012.

The Fujian Development and Reform Commission and the Fujian Provincial Railway Office are cooperating to make sure the project passes the assessment.

The railway will link Fuzhou city with the Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone, spanning 88.5 kilometers and creating six stations along the line.

Experts say the railway will improve the transportation conditions in Pingtan Island to benefit its development. It will also promote communication between Fuzhou and coastal cities and strengthen the railway network of the Western Taiwan Straits Economic Zone.
