On July 5, Lu Peijun, Deputy Director of the General Administration of Customs, visited Pingtan for its inspection. Lu visited the Aoqian Ro-Ro Vessel Wharf, and investigated a marine land reclamation project and a pipeline utility-tunnel construction, and attended a symposium with directors of the Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone Administrative Committee.

Lu said the opening up of Pingtan had become part of the national development strategies.

Pingtan therefore enjoys more preferential policies than those of special customs supervision areas, according to the Overall Plan for the Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone approved by the State Council. Last month, the General Administration of Customs issued 27 measures to help promote the island's development.

According to the plan, it is necessary to have an effective management system for opening up the Pingtan area and offer more preferential policies.

Lu said that they will formulate concrete measures for Pingtan's specific development problems.
