Tiangong’s birthday
Sacrifices offered to Tiangong

The 9th day of the first lunar month is the birthday of Tiangong, the Jade Emperor and supreme god of Taoism in heaven, on earth, and in hell, and the most popular tradition in Jinjiang. The day before, locals steam cakes and prepare sacrifices, and at sunset on the day itself, they put the items on a table with Tiangong paper and Tiangong lights hanging overhead. At night, they light candles and burn incense and the whole family kneel down to pray then burn joss paper and set off firecrackers.
