Jinjiang Shenhu antiphonal song

Shenhu antiphonal song is a form of folk songs in Southern Min dialect in Fujian province. Created by fishermen, it was most popular during post-Opium War period. The lyrics usually employ rhetoric techniques like metaphor and allegory and contain simple but profound wisdom.

It is easy to understand and holds distinct characteristics of the fishing occupation and of the region. Many of its lyrics and tunes are similar to Southern Min dialect songs in Taiwan, which testifies to close bonds across the Taiwan Straits in geographical location, bloodline and culture.
