Paper-cut artist listed as ICH successor

Recently, the Ministry of Culture officially announced the fourth batch of national intangible cultural heritage items successors list. Cheng Xinghong, a folk paper-cut artist and second generation successor of Cheng paper-cut from Zhengwu town, Yingdong district, Fuyang city, Anhui province, was listed as the national intangible cultural heritage successor.

Cheng Xinghong is the first national intangible cultural heritage item successor of folk art and the fourth national intangible cultural heritage item successor in the city. Cheng paper-cut has made innovations based on Fuyang traditional folk paper-cut and is a unique style of paper-cutting. The products are rough but delicate.

Fuyang paper-cut has a long history. It is known for its exquisite craftsmanship and its good combination of rough lines and fine lines. The style mixes together North China paper-cut's roughness and South China paper-cut's delicacy. Fuyang paper-cut was listed as a national intangible cultural heritage item in 2008. It has witnessed rapid development in past years and formed a tourism cultural industry in Fuyang city. It is one of the most representative tourist commodities in Fuyang.
