Jilin records growth in imports and exports in 2020

Jilin province in Northeast China reported growth in its foreign trade in 2020, with the total value of the import and export of goods hitting 128.01 billion yuan ($19.69 billion), according to Jilin Daily.

Of this total figure, 10.48 billion yuan was seen in December, an increase of 6.3 percent year-on-year.

Throughout the year, general trade imports and exports increased by 4.8 percent year-on-year, accounting for 90.1 percent of the province's total import and export value during the same period – a proportion which increased by 5.6 percentage points.

Imports and exports to and from countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative was 38.13 billion yuan, an increase of 0.6 percent.

Imports and exports to and from Japan and Mexico increased significantly, reaching 13.02 billion yuan and 6.53 billion yuan respectively, an increase of 25.4 percent and 43.6 percent.

During the same period, imports and exports to and from Russia were 5.78 billion yuan, basically the same as the same period last year.

The imports and exports of foreign-invested enterprises was 63.72 billion yuan, an increase of 6.1 percent, accounting for 49.8 percent.

Mechanical and electrical products and agricultural products were the main export commodities. Of these, exports of rail transit equipment and of fresh and dried fruits and nuts increased significantly.

Imports of mechanical and electrical products accounted for over 80 percent of total imports, and imports of agricultural products increased significantly.
