A dumpling banquet was held on Oct 25 in Changchun, capital city of Northeast China's Jilin province, for veterans from the Chinese People's Volunteers, or CPV.

The banquet was held to mark the 70th anniversary of the CPV entering the Democratic People's Republic of Korea to fight in the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea (1950-53) and also to celebrate the Double Ninth Festival.

Hosted by Changchun Charity Federation and Changchun Baihe volunteer association, the event invited 70 veterans. The oldest was 95 years old, the youngest was 87 years old and the average age of the veterans was 91 years old.

According to the Baihe volunteers association, since the first dumpling banquet for the elderly was held in 2014, banquets are held every year during the Double Ninth Festival.

The veterans attending the dumpling banquet were selected from a list of senior veterans provided by city departments, whose officials spent less than two months traveling more than 4,500 kilometers and visiting 136 elderly veterans from Changchun and Yitong county in Jilin province.

Accompanied by family members and volunteers, senior veterans watched the performance staged by art groups and quaffed the dumplings.
