Northeast China's Jilin province signed a memorandum on cooperation on Sept 3 with the Republic of Belarus in eastern Europe -- during a remote online video conference on science and technology innovation cooperation between the two sides -- according to local media reports.

The conference connected officials from Beijing, Jilin's capital city of Changchun and Minsk -- Belarus's capital -- through the video link.

It aimed to extend exchanges and interaction, work together to deepen cooperation and promote mutual benefits and win-win results.

Another goal was to promote new achievements in scientific and technological innovation in the new era between China and Belarus.

At the conference, Jing Junhai, governor of Jilin province, said that holding the video conference was an important measure in actively responding to the Belt and Road Initiative.

He urged both sides to deepen their cooperation in science and technology, talents and platforms.

He also urged them to accelerate the construction of projects such as China-Belarus Science and Technology Park and the China-Belarus International Innovation Center.

Both sides should strive for more win-win results, as well as focus on key industries such as modern new automobiles and the aerospace and modern agriculture sectors.

The governor added that the two sides should endeavor to improve their current exchange mechanisms, expand trade, enhance traditional friendships and make more contributions to establishing new, mutually-beneficial cooperation in various fields.
