Northeast China's Jilin province reported four new confirmed COVID-19 cases on May 19, according to officials from the local health authority.

The Health Commission of Jilin Province said that the four domestically transmitted cases were all discovered in Jilin city. Of these, three cases were reported in the first hour of May 19, officials added.

By the end of May 19, the province had reported a total of 133 confirmed locally transmitted cases, of whom 106 were cured and discharged from hospital, 25 were receiving treatment at hospital, while two fatalities were recorded.

Three of the patients receiving treatment at hospital are currently in a severe condition and were all from the city of Jilin. Officials said a total of 1,181 close contacts of the confirmed locally transmitted cases in the province are now in quarantine and under strict medical observation.

Due to increasing new confirmed cases, the city of Jilin has further reinforced its COVID-19 prevention and control measures, locking down all residential communities and villages and strengthening its capacity for conducting nucleic acid tests.

In addition, the city received support from 17 medical teams from other cities in the province, including teams from Changchun, Baicheng, Siping, Liaoyuan and Songyuan -- greatly strengthening Jilin city's confidence in combating the virus, officials said.

Many team members are experienced medical workers from hospitals such as Jilin Provincial's People's Hospital, the First Hospital of Jilin University and the China-Japan Union Hospital of Jilin University. Some of them went to Wuhan city -- in Central China's Hubei province which initially bore the brunt of the novel coronavirus outbreak in the country earlier, to offer medical assistance.

The Affiliated Hospital of Jilin Medical University has also been transformed and put into use as a designated hospital for COVID-19 treatment in the city, according to the local government.
