Jilin city reinforces COVID-19 epidemic prevention, control

Northeast China's Jilin province reported two new confirmed COVID-19 cases on May 17, according to officials from the local health authority.

The Health Commission of Jilin Province said that the two domestically transmitted cases were discovered in Jilin city who were close contacts of earlier confirmed cases.

By the end of May 17, the province had reported a total of 127 confirmed locally transmitted cases, of whom 103 were cured and discharged from hospital, 22 were receiving treatment at hospital, while two fatalities were recorded.

Two of the patients receiving treatment at hospital are in a severe condition and were all from the city of Jilin. Officials said a total of 1,117 close contacts of the confirmed locally transmitted cases in the province are now in quarantine and under medical observation.

Fengman district in Jilin city, currently under lockdown, has been classified as a high-risk area for COVID-19 as three new locally transmitted cases were reported there on May 16.

Data showed that from May 7 to May 17, Jilin city reported a total of 34 confirmed locally transmitted cases, with 19 cases in Shulan city, 12 in Fengman district, two in Chuanying district and one in Changyi district, as well as two asymptomatic cases.

During a news conference held in Jilin city on May 17, a local official said that the city is accelerating traces to the source of the transmission and the provincial, municipal and county departments are cooperating in strengthening their nucleic acid testing capability.

Over the the last three days, the city completed nucleic acid tests for 23,295 people, with the help from the National Health Commission and the city's third-party detection institutions, according to officials.

In addition, the city's 3,432 Party members and volunteers are working 24 hours a day to offer epidemic prevention and control services for residents, they added.
