A significant auto deal was a highlight of the recent Chinese-Foreign Enterprise Cooperation Forum -- held in Shanghai on Nov 6 during the on-going second China International Import Expo -- according to reports.

During the forum FAW-Volkswagen, the leading automaker based in Changchun in Northeast China’s Jilin province, signed a memorandum of cooperation with German-based auto giant Volkswagen Group.

According to the agreement, FAW-Volkswagen is expected to import CKD – or completely knocked down – auto parts and Audi vehicles from Volkswagen Group in 2020, to meet increasing demand from China’s auto market.

Since first got together in 1988, FAW and Volkswagen have deepened their cooperation in production, R&D, quality guarantees, purchasing, services and more.

The two have been working together in importing components for 16 years and have been importing vehicles.

Officials said FAW-Volkswagen has also put much focus on localizing its operations.

It has trained top auto professionals, developed leading manufacturing techniques and trained auto parts suppliers to international standards, contributing significantly to China’s auto industry.
