Jilin craftsman, 57, makes over 1,000 gourd pyrography works

Wang Hongmiao, a 57-year-old Changchun resident, creates some gourd art at his home in Changchun, capital of Northeast China’s Jilin province, on Aug 4. Wang taught himself how to do gourd pyrography and has made more than 1,000 works over the past 10 years. His works often feature historical figures, flowers, plants, animals, and fairy tales. Gourd pyrography is an art form in which an artist paints on the surface of a gourd with heated utensils, and the color of the resulting image depends on how hot the utensil is and how much pressure is applied.
