Postal Savings Bank of China supports poverty alleviation in Jilin

Update: 2019-07-26

In recent years, the Tongyu branch of the Postal Savings Bank of China has been committed to helping locals out of poverty.

Tongyu county is located in Baicheng city in Northeast China’s Jilin province.

In 2016, Linshui village, Tongyu county had 120 impoverished households, many of which fell into poverty due to illness.

That number has now been reduced to 39 thanks to the manpower, resources, and financial support the bank has put into things such as renovation of dilapidated houses, improvement of the environment and sanitation, and social support for villagers.

In addition, the bank offers loans to locals to help them with planting, animal raising, and farming. It also provides loans to companies so they can hire more workers.

This year, the bank has already offered 32 million yuan ($4.66 million) in loans to local farmers and businesses.

Poverty alleviation is not just about offering money and resources, it is also about improving people’s mindset and confidence, said Wang Li, director of the Tongyu branch of the Postal Savings Bank of China.

The bank also cooperates with organizations such as Jilin University, China Agricultural University, and Jilin Daily on a number of projects.

In the future, it will continue offering financial support to locals and helping develop local industries, according to the bank director.
