With the theme of "Cross, Connect and Create", the forum was part of the 14th Changchun Film Festival that is currently in full swing in the provincial capital, which will run until Sept 8.

Filmmakers, science fiction writers, scientists and science fiction lovers from home and abroad gathered for an open-minded dialogue between the scientific community and the film industry.

"Art comes from life and goes beyond life; science fiction comes from science and goes beyond science," said Zhang Shuangnan, chief scientist of the HXMT program at the Institute of High Energy Physics under the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Liu Wei, human-computer interaction professor from Beijing University of Post and Telecommunications, suggests that scientists should take part in the production of science fiction films. "Science fiction is science plus arts; a science fiction film separated from science is like a house without foundation," he said.
