Wetland ecology schools were established on Sept 4 and 5 at Xianghai and Momoge wetlands in Jilin province.

The founding of the schools offered opportunities for the students to raise awareness of the significance of the environment and wetland protection. In addition, the students would also devote themselves to the environmental protection work.

The organizer said that the "wetland ecology school" is considered to be widely promoted and just as widely used in Jilin province.

Xianghai Nature Reserve in Tongyu county of Jilin province is a famed national-level nature reserve and home to red-crowned cranes. Thirty-nine percent of the area is covered with wetland, water, reeds, and virgin forests.

The Nature Reserve is a natural habitat for 293 types of precious birds, including six breeds of cranes. Both the idyllic prairie and the local Mongol folklore contribute to making this bird-watching place a fascinating scenic spot for nature lovers.

Momoge National Nature Reserve's rich fish resources and water plants make it a white crane paradise. As of Oct 10 in 2016, over 2,100 white cranes and a class A bird under national protection, had been recorded there.
