31. Hong Kong film craze strikes again

Several films were released this year to mark the 70th anniversary of Bruce Lee's birth on November 27, 1940. As the pioneer of kungfu cinema, Bruce Lee not only introduced Chinese martial arts to Western audiences but also successfully built the image of the Chinese male. My Brother’s Bruce Lee from Hong Kong director Wilson Yip focuses on the kungfu legend's life-story before he became a star. It was released to the public on Nov 25. Jie Quan Dao, made by Zhou Zhenrong and Chen Tianxing, is an action movie about the spirit of Bruce Lee’s kungfu Jie Quan Dao. It was released on Nov 16. Another one, I am Bruce Le,e started shooting this April, and will soon be introduced to the public.

Aside from films about Bruce Lee, the Hong Kong Films Retrospective 2010 was launched in October in Shanghai. It presented 23 acclaimed Hong Kong movies to the mainland audiences. Apart from the retrospective, there was a business matching event to provide a platform for Hong Kong new-generation directors to promote film projects to investors from the mainland.
