28. Chinese films/TV series win international awards

At the 13th Shanghai International Film Festival, the Chinese film Deep in the Clouds won the Jury Grand Prix and the best music award. Director Liu Jie took the best director award, and the Chinese non-professional actors Wang Puze and Na Zhiye were given the special Jury Award for their work in Deep in the Clouds. Jiang Wenli’s film Lan won the best film in the New Talent awards.

In the award ceremony of the 23rd Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) on October 31, Chinese participants won three highly-coveted awards: Li Yu's Buddha Mountain won Best Artistic Contribution and Fan Bingbing, its heroine, picked up the Best Actress honor. Wang Qianyuan from China won Best Actor for his role in The Piano in a Factory. The light-hearted family drama A Beautiful Daughter-in-law Era won Best Foreign TV Series at the 2010 Tokyo TV Festival, an immense honor for a local TV production. The show has been a smashing success. With an average 10 percent viewership rate, it focuses on the always-fascinating mother/daughter-in-law relationship and is expected to become one of this year’s most popular TV series.

Chinese director John Woo won the Lifetime Achievement Award in the 67th Venice Film Festival.

In the 26th International Short Film Festival Berlin, held between November 16 and 21, five Chinese animated short films were up against more than 400 films for prizes valued at a total of 40,000 Euro (60,000 US$).

The 3rd Filming East Festival was launched in London where four different types of Chinese films premiered.
