A short film named Old Boys caught many people’s attention in 2010. It is the last of the “the bright eleven” series co-produced by Youku and the China Film Group. Different from the other 9 short films, Old Boys is a 43–minute film with a much deeper influence. The film was uploaded to the Internet on Oct 28, and within 11 days had been viewed over 7.1 million times (not including downloads and offline watching). The story is not one that is shocking to the world and it features all amateur actors. However, the reminiscence of youth in the story and the gap between reality and the ideal at the end touched many people born in the 1970s and 1980s who have entered their middle ages or are facing an important stage in their lives.
