Landslide buries at least 20 in Colombia

BOGOTA - A landslide in Colombia caused by heavy rains buried at least 20 people on Monday in the mountainous northwest of the Andean nation, relief workers and residents said.

Heavy rains have battered the area some 155 miles (250 km) northwest of the Colombian capital of Bogota, forcing rescue workers to call off the search until Tuesday morning.

"The mountain just came down on top (of them)," a resident of the area was quoted as saying by local media.

Residents and rescue workers said that a group of people had tried to get across a first landslide when a larger collapse buried them.
