ATHENS -- An earthquake measuring 5.1 degrees on Richter scale was recorded on Friday evening in the Aegean Sea, northeastern of Greek capital Athens.
It follows another tremor which shook southeastern Aegean Sea earlier in the day.
According to the Euro-Mediterranean Geodynamic Institute, Friday evening's earthquake occurred at 9:53 pm local time ( 1853 GMT) and was recorded near the islands of Skopelos and Alonissos at a depth of 10 kilometers.
The tremor was felt in a major part of central Greece, including Athens and according to information from Greek media there were no injuries or damage caused.
The earthquake which was felt in Kos island earlier on Friday noon measured 5.3 on the Richter scale at a depth of 180 kilometers and also did not cause any damage or injuries.
Greek scientists predict that aftershocks will follow.
Greece has been hit by devastating earthquakes many times in recent history, more than any other European country. In 1999 a major tremor in Athens caused many deaths and extensive damage.
