Hair today ... Asha Mandela shows off her 55ft long dreadlocks
HAIR-raising Asha Mandela’s 55ft dreadlocks are longer than a BUS.
The world record holder vows never to cut them, even though US medics say their 3st weight may paralyse her.
Asha’s hair takes two days to wash and dry and has to be carried in a baby sling.
She said: “It is my life. Cutting it would be equivalent to suicide.”
The mum of one, 47, added in Atlanta, Georgia: “Doctors think I have a curvature of my spine due to the length and the weight of my hair.
“Some say my neck has collapsed and I need to be careful because I could have spasms and be paralysed.”
Doctors have also asked her to consider cutting her hair for health reasons, including the risk of bacterial infection.

Asha, whose long locks resemble children’s character Rapunzel, calls her hair “my baby”.
She began growing it 25 years ago after a “spiritual calling”.

In 2009 it was officially measured at 19ft 6in, but a check last week found a 55ft 7in strand.
Angela Davis, who helps style Asha’s hair for special occasions, said: “My first thought was, ‘God, how much will I charge?’ Now I see it as an honour.”
