Taipei Palace Museum's visitor numbers set a new high

One of China's best-known ancient paintings, the Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains, is shown in its entirety for the first time in more than 360 years in the Taipei Palace Museum in June, 2011. The painting was damaged and torn in two in the 17th century. One part of the painting was kept in Taiwan after 1948 while the other section remained on the Chinese mainland. [Photo/Chinanews.com]

The Taipei Palace Museum has seen over 5.4 million visitors in 2014, roughly 900,000 more than the number in 2013, the museum's latest statistics revealed. Mainland independent tourists account for one of the sources of the growing number. The Taipei Palace Museum has become a must-see during most mainland tourists' Taiwan trips.
