Taiyuan - China Daily opened its 25th regional office on Tuesday in Taiyuan, capital of North China's Shanxi province, another important step in the newspaper's endeavor to expand local coverage.
"The opening of the Shanxi office sets up a new bridge connecting the province with the international community. At the same time, the office is also an important link in building China Daily's global reporting network," Zhu Ling, editor-in-chief of China Daily, said at the opening ceremony.
"Shanxi is a province rich in energy resources and culture. In recent years, it has been making efforts to upgrade its industrial structure and pattern of development, which has brought intensive focus from home and abroad. China Daily will cooperate with Shanxi to better present the province to the outside world," Zhu added.
Hu Suping, chief of the publicity department of the Shanxi provincial Party committee, welcomed the establishment of China Daily's Shanxi office.
"As a less developed inland province, Shanxi urgently needs to be known by the outside world. China Daily has a unique channel and rich experience in global publicity. We hope more investors will come to Shanxi and more Shanxi enterprises will expand business in the international market through China Daily reports," Hu said.
After the opening ceremony, China Daily offered one year of free newspapers to two local universities and one high school.
As China's first national English-language newspaper published around the world, China Daily has so far established 25 regional offices around the country.
In recent years, the newspaper has been taking ambitious measures to expand its influence around the world.
After China Daily US edition was launched in 2009, the newspaper plans to further launch its Asia-Pacific edition, European edition and African edition this year.
In addition, the newspaper also had a major facelift in its page layout this March.
China Daily is one of the most authoritative newspapers in the country. The newspaper has an average daily circulation of more than 300,000 in 150 countries and regions. Two-thirds of China Daily's readers are government officials, think tanks and decision-makers as well as top executives from multinational corporations.
