Prego (Westin Financial Street Hotel, Beijing)

Food in Italy is as important to the culture as it is in China, making selection and preparation paramount to head Chef Vincenzo Gatti. With the power of a large brand like the Westin, requests and special events such as Wagyu beef and foie gras are possible here in Beijing. There is no skimping on ingredients here, which the local clientele who frequent Prego will confirm. In fact, as time has progressed since the opening of the Westin, the number of local clientele is inching past the number of expat diners. Lunch time is a perfect example of this, as business men and their staff fill the tables to dine on Chef Gatti’s creations.

These creations from the head chef are centered on his deep roots in true Italian cuisine and a growing interest in his new home in China. Not to say this is fusion, “Fusion is more of a confusion”, the chef remarks, but an understanding of the clientele. Chef Gatti knows his cuisine and after a recent stint in Dubai, he is looking to bring his high level of culinary skill to Beijing. From masterful renditions of osso bucco to probably the best biscotti you can find, Prego should be your choice for lunch or dinner, no matter the occasion.

Seated in the up and coming Financial Street and part of the long tradition of Westin quality is the delightful Italian eatery, Prego. The term prego in Italian is often associated with “you’re welcome” and here the warm colors, large picture windows, deep wine selection and hearty home-style cuisine will make you feel just that, welcome.
