China Daily and Beijing Foreign Studies University inked a deal in Beijing Wednesday to boost cooperation in areas like talent cultivation and course development.
The move is in line with Chinese media's ambition to expand abroad.
This cooperation is innovative and quotable, said Hao Ping, vice Minister of Education at the ceremony.
China Daily editor-in-chief Zhu Ling told the ceremony that human resource is key to the sustainable development of external publicity work. "As a national English-language newspaper, China Daily would like to share its abundant resources with universities to cultivate more interdisciplinary talents for external publicity," Zhu said, adding that the newspaper also needs more high-profile staff in future as it is developing quickly and the cooperation with Beijing Foreign Studies University will increase the newspaper's talent pool.
The two will co-build a talent cultivation and training base, hold forums and activities, and launch a "China Daily Program" supported by journalism professionals and business and marketing experts of the newspaper. The courses of the program cover international news events, social focuses, news writing and editing, media management and development of the new media. A "China Daily Week" activity will also be featured in the cooperation between the two.
