Foreign Minister Wang Yi said Wednesday that China will shoulder more responsibility and contribute more to the world instead of seeking to become a global leader. Wang made the remarks during a news conference during the 2017 two sessions.
"As we treat all countries, large and small, as equal partners, we don't believe some countries should lead other countries," he said in response to a question whether China will displace anybody and become a global leader.
Instead, Wang said, large countries that have more resources and capabilities should shoulder more responsibilities and make greater contribution.
"As the world's second-largest economy, China will make its due contribution to global growth. As the largest developing country, China will play an even bigger role in upholding the legitimate rights and interests of our fellow developing countries." Wang added.
