BEIJING - The scandal-scathed Red Cross Society of China (RCSC) will launch an online donation database on Sunday, aiming to provide more transparency, according to a post on the group's official microblog.

The online platform will operate on a trial basis starting from Sunday, said the microblog post of the organization, which is undergoing a credibility crisis over a scandal that may involve its misuse of donation funds.

Information regarding donations to areas devastated by last year's 7.1-magnitude earthquake in Yushu of Northwest China's Qinghai province, including the total amount of donations and the way in which the funds were distributed, will be some of the first information to be featured on the site, according to the post.

Wang Rupeng, the charity's secretary general, said on Thursday on his own microblog that public suggestions regarding the operation of the site will be welcomed.

The RCSC recently came under fire following a scandal revolving around a young woman calling herself "Guo Meimei." The woman claimed to be a general manager for "Red Cross Commerce," a group that the RCSC said does not exist.

The woman posted many photos on her microblog detailing her lavish lifestyle, provoking the ire of netizens who speculated that she might have funded her extravagant purchases by embezzling money from the Red Cross Society.

The charity opened its own official microblog earlier this month in order to demonstrate its willingness to enhance transparency in light of public distrust following the Guo Meimei scandal.
