NANJING - The death toll has risen to nine after a coach hit a truck Saturday in Jiangsu province, local publicity officials said Sunday.

The collision occurred 1:38 pm Saturday at a crossroad in Daxu town in Xuzhou city, killing six people on the spot and injuring 26 others. Three of the injured had died after treatment failed by Sunday noon, according to the Publicity Department of Xuzhou Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China.

Currently four people are in intensive care but their injuries are not life threatening. Nineteen others injured are in a stable condition.

An investigation into the cause of the accident is under way.
