Entertainment Hall

The Turkey Pavilion brings a ballet performance of Harem tonight at 8 pm. The ballet tells the story of the mysterious harems of Turkey and showcases traditional Turkish culture, music and unique choreography. Turkish artists will also perform the song and dance show Rose Garden on Sept 11 at 8 pm at the Entertainment Hall of the Expo Garden.

Europe Square

Musical prodigy Olafur Arnalds from Iceland will perform at the Expo Garden at 5 pm. This performance is just one in his China tour. Two more concerts are scheduled on Sept 19 in Tianjin and Sept 20 in Beijing. Arnalds, 23, is a multi-instrumentalist and producer, and he is currently touring to promote his second album, And They Have Escaped The Weight of Darkness, which was released in April and has received good reviews. He continues to "bring my classical influence to the people who don't usually listen to this kind of music (to) open people's minds." He has been successful in luring a generation of pop and rock fans into the beguiling world of electronic chamber music.

Shanghai Duolun Museum of Modern Art

An exhibition from Saudi Arabia titled Nabatt: a Sense of Being, presents the contemporary art scene of the country. Sponsored by the Saudi Arabia Pavilion, the exhibition has been organized by CUBE Arts. Two curators, Lulwah Al-Homoud and JW Stella, used the word "Nabatt" for the title. It means "origin" and refers to an Arabic poetic form since the 16th century. The exhibition features more than 130 pieces of artwork from 23 artists, who have been heavily influenced by foreign culture and attempt to re-construct their native culture. The exhibition will continue until the end of October.

More than 20 oil paintings and Chinese ink paintings by Zhao Chun are on exhibition. Zhao has created portraits with vivid details of Chinese women in Miao ethnic costumes, presenting the oriental ideal for beauty - tranquility, refinement and fragility.

James Cohan Gallery

British artist Richard Long is having his first solo exhibition in China, entitled A Thousand Stones. Considered one of the most influential artists of his generation, Long's works have extended the possibilities of sculpture beyond traditional materials and methods. In this exhibition of new works, Long uses materials indigenous to Chinese mainland, such as stone and clay, and will feature sculptures, fingerprinted objects, and a wall work made from colored clay and photographs. During the artist's first trip to China, Long created works in Yunnan and Sichuan provinces, one of which is the source and inspiration for the title of his exhibition, A Thousand Stones. The exhibition will continue until Nov 7.

Majestic Theater

An original comedy My Own Swordsman will be performed at 7:30 pm. The play, written by Ning Caishen and directed by He Nian, is the first episode of a trilogy of love comedies by Ning and He. The play tells the story of Mo Xiaobao, successor of a martial art clan leader, as he runs away from debt collectors. He takes a job in a whorehouse and falls in love with one of the prostitutes, Dingchun, who is always full of hope for life and faith for the future. The heart-warming comedy has toured throughout China after it was premiered in 2008.
