4-year jail for selling fakes
A man has been sentenced to four years in prison and fined 100,000 yuan ($14,800) after being convicted for selling unlicensed Haibao - Expo mascot - toys.
Ding Hua, 29, a native of Henan province, hired several women in Yangzhou, Jiangsu province, in August 2009 to produce more than 250,000 unlicensed stuffed Haibao toys, making a profit of more than 440,000 yuan.
Lucky tourist wins free trip
The Montenegro Pavilion, located in Zone C of the Expo Garden, welcomed its millionth visitor on Tuesday. Huang Jiali, a 25-year-old woman from Guangdong province, who works as a music teacher in Shanghai, received a round-trip ticket to Montenegro, with a five-star accommodation thrown in.
Bangladesh issues passport
The Bangladesh Pavilion released its own Expo passport on Monday, following the lead of the Paraguay and the United Nations pavilions, which also recently unveiled their passports. With Bengal tigers on the cover, the Bangladesh passport has attracted lots of buyers who intend to gift the passports to friends and relatives born in the Year of the Tiger. Expo officials recently released two special edition Expo passports with 56 new Haibao stamps.
Japan visitors to mark Osaka Day
A group of 500 visitors from Osaka, Japan, arrived at Expo 2010 Shanghai on Tuesday to participate in the Osaka Day celebration on Tuesday. It is the largest Japanese group to arrive since the opening of the Expo. The group will also perform traditional Osaka dances in the Urban Best Practice Area.
